Climate change, global health, and sustainability are some of the most pressing concerns of the 21st century, especially for future generations.
SDAI’s Illumination is positioned squarely at the intersection of art, science, and technology, and uses these interconnected fields to boost public understanding of contemporary issues and explore solutions, both real and imagined.
In creating this experiential show, 26 artists spin research into art through mediums that range from light, sound, and metal installations to soundscape, textile, and even trees.
Sixteen local artists produced work after teaming up with scientists and technologists from seven major research institutions: La Jolla Institute for Immunology, Qualcomm Institute/Calit2, Salk Institute, Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute, Scripps Institution of Oceanography, Scripps Research, and UC San Diego.
Ten additional multimedia artists from the region are bringing individual perspectives and personal points of view to 21st century challenges.
