Though our staff is small, our ambitions are large and our sense of justice constant.

Your support empowers SDAI to nurture regional artistic talent by providing an arena for creativity; to foster social equity by presenting visitors a cultural perspective as seen through the eyes of our artists; and to support existing and create new audiences for contemporary regional art through time-honored and progressive programming.

Drilling down further,

• SDAI nurtures regional artistic talent by showcasing work, paying artists equitably, providing commissions, hosting residencies, and underwriting art supplies/resources when possible. As well, we promote regional artists through traditional and new media, link them with collectors, highlight their work through special programming and in weekly E-News, and feature a curated selection of their functional work in our online Regional Artists Market (RAM).

• SDAI fosters social equity by eliminating admission fees as of January 2020, providing written guides and program descriptions in multiple languages, funding transportation to and from exhibitions for underserved residents, providing free tours, and training docents to explain and account for the perspectives of marginalized artists from the Latinx, African American, LGBTQ, Asian, and other communities.

• SDAI supports and expands arts audiences by offering previews, insider tours, special events, presentations, and tailored benefits to individuals, schools, organizations, and businesses to foster their access, understanding and appreciation of contemporary regional art.
