“The Dead Are Not Quiet: A Group Exhibition of Macabre Art” features work by artists living and working in the Southern California/Baja Norte region selected through an open call. The judge for the work was Scott Mitchell Putesky, an artist and musician best known for his work as the guitarist and co-founder of the musical group Marilyn Manson. Artists in “The Dead Are Not Quiet” will be announced by September 10, 2016; the exhibition will run concurrently with “The Haunted Art of T. Jefferson Carey”.

“The Haunted Art of T. Jefferson Carey” showcases thirty years of Carey’s work in the most theatrical, dramatic, and comprehensive way, exhibiting many of the qualities of a haunted house, including a black light installation created expressly for the exhibition. The term “haunted art” derives from work created especially for a commercial haunted house—it is generally executed quickly, with a certain roughness, and depicts horrible creatures, in strange and bizarre situations. It evokes a powerful emotion, be it happy, sad, or terrified. T. Jefferson Carey has produced plays throughout the United States and London, as well as several animated films, which will be screened at SDAI during the course of the exhibition. He has done art design, scenic design, performance art, and has taught acting and playwriting. He holds a BFA from New York University and an MFA from the National Theatre Conservatory.
