Sinking, Sinking, Sinking: SDAI Winter Exhibition is a multimedia show organized by Los Angeles-based artist and curator Max Presneill. Comprised by the work of 50 artists working primarily in Southern California/Baja.
Max Presneill is currently the Executive Director and Head Curator for the Torrance Art Museum as well as Curatorial Director of ARTRA Curatorial, an independent curatorial projects management team who organize the CO/LAB – an art fair for alternative spaces which is free to participants - as well as the MAS ATTACK series of large-scale pop-up exhibitions. “Sinking, Sinking, Sinking” will feature the work of SDAI artist-in-residence Cindy Santos Bravo, a San Diego-based multidisciplinary artist. Bravo explores the language of peripheral cultures repositioning the in-between experiences of race, gender and identity. Her installation is a two-room engagement that draws from hostage negotiation principles, social psychology, and psychotherapy to address human interest in a liberation from the cyclical processes of awareness and affirmation, offering a commentary on behavioral practices of (non)conformity.
Participating artists include: Alex Kohnke, Angele Lebert, Anna Stoefen, Anna Zappoli, Becky Guttin, Ben Darby, Bill Pierce, Brian Benfer, Carolina Montejo, Christian Michaels, Christian Ramirez, Christine Bolger, Cindy Santos Bravo, Constance Rawlins, Cristina Saucedo, Cy Kuckenbaker, Dan Adams, Daniel Barron Corrales, Danny Suhendar, David Fobes, Davin Kyle Knight, Diana Kohne, Dimitris Dokos, Ellen Dieter, Emily Halpern, Eva de Leon, Gail Schneider, Jacek Ferens, Jane Szabo, Jason Umfress, Jason Sherry, Jon Loren-Bazan, Jonathan Ryan, Kenda Francis, Kevin Freligh, Kim Garcia, Larry Caveney, Maria Rendon, Maya Vanderschuit, Melissa Beck, Muriel Erck, Nuria Pujol, Paul Turounet, Philip Petrie, Rachel Fischer, Robert Andrade, Sasha Reibstein, Sommer Roman Sheffield, Sunny Samuel, and Vanesa Gingold
