San Diego Art Institute is hosting a special workshop presented by Bridge and So Sew Co collective

for a social engagement art piece that invites the public to get their resistance on! Art and activism have an inherently symbiotic relationship, no matter where you stand or what your message may be. Join Shirin Towfiq, as she provides basic sewing instruction and ideas for conceptual clothing inspiring participants to assert their individual power the art of textile creation. Materials will be provided, but feel free to bring your own found fabric to incorporate into your finished piece.

Shirin Towfiq is a San Diego based conceptual artist of Iranian descent that works in textile, conceptual clothing, installation, and socially engaged art.  Her work addresses cultural, feminine, and interpersonal relationships. She received a BA in Practice of Art from University of California Berkeley. Shirin is the founder of So Sew Co, an organization that inspires creativity and builds community through alternative sewing projects and art workshops.Learn how to create your very own resist shirt and come prepared for your next protest or rally event.  Each shirt can function on its own, but has the ability to connect with as many people as possible!
