San Diego Art Institute welcomes international artist, Tara de la Garza, for a workshop experimenting with mixed media and collage.

With her collage work, Tara distorts elements of nature to create new hybrid creatures, based on the aesthetic of the exquisite corpse. In this workshop we begin with images in magazines, cut them out using a scalpel and create new forms that we then glue to a page. Each participant should have a final artwork and the tools to create more by the end of the workshop. Tara likens the workshop to a quilting circle - part book club, part tea party with some cut and paste techniques mixed with art theory. The ultimate goal being the creation of a community around art and friendship.
