Current SDAI MJM Artist-in-Residence Xuchi Naungayan Eggleton will hold open studio during the weekend of Maker Faire San Diego. Visitors can watch and engage in her interactive art practice while learning about her process in real time.
Ranging from sculpture and drawing to installation, Eggleton’s projects are material responsive and vary with the projects in mind. Interactivity and blurring the lines of maker and viewer help navigate her projects, their use, and ultimate functionality.
For Maker Faire, she will introduce the audience to the series 99 cent store autobiographic mandalas, which aims to create recognizable patterns seen in many traditional fiber arts throughout cultures. Labor, memory and autobiography are explored and actively engaged with the public, while delving into dollar store consumerism, social class and personal narrative. The audience becomes collaborator for a creative art experience that puts the viewer in an active role.
